If anything is going to end up killing us, it's nitwits such as these. I still don't understand why these religious fundamentalists find the very idea of climate change a threat to their beliefs. It would seem they consider science itself to be some invention of the devil.
I visited this "Friends of Science" website and its pretty much what you'd expect. FoS is to science what NOM's "March for Marriage" is to gay marriage - truth as it might exist if transported into an alternate universe.
I have relatives in Alberta and Saskatchewan and know there are a lot of fundies up there to rival even our homegrown varieties. Still, with all of the oil shale drilling going on up there, one has to wonder how much this Biblical view of the world is tainted by mammon.
The humanist billboards were great, btw. I'd love to see them everywhere!
Calgary Billboard: The Sun is the Main Driver of Climate Change. Not You. Not CO2.

A new billboard in Calgary falsely claims: The sun is the main driver of climate change. Not you. Not CO2.
Two points:
1) The group funding the billboard is FriendsOfScience.org, a groups as misnamed as Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (which spreads lies about homosexuality) and all those Christian groups with family in their names that oppose gay families.
2) Pattison Outdoor Advertising allowed this billboard to go up. Its the same company that rejected ads from Greenpeace (promoting solar power) and the two ads below from the Centre For Inquiry (promoting Humanism)....

(18,219 posts)The sun is the main driver. But they miss the mark when they say it isn't people/CO2. Add the two together, and that is where the real problems come in.
Personally, I think it is all god's fault.

(1,918 posts)Their arguments seem to be either climate change doesn't exist or, if it does, it's god's will and we are not great enough to affect it. But younger xians seem to believe otherwise.
I think the older ones just believe they'll be raptures before shit hits the fan.

(3,518 posts)After all, the earth is only 6000 years old so all that malarkey about ancient carbon deposits must be another one of the devil's lies.
Now don't get any crazy ideas about other things that god created like weed or those naughty bits between your legs being a sin not to use, it doesn't work that way.

(17,505 posts)But since they don't seem to know what an isotope is..... they don't know that the kind(s) you get from burning fossil fuels are in the majority of CO2 these days so.... yes Virginia, it is YOU!
Poor dears..... can only conceive of one thing causing something, I guess. No intermingling or action/reaction.

(9,288 posts)There is a way the climate would be if not for the interference of some agent that is not normally there. The sun is kind of a constant in that equation so its idiotic to say its a culprit in anyway...
But the right says idiotic things all the time don't they?
