Total Solar Eclipse coming April 8, 2024

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse, known as the "Great North American Eclipse," will trace a narrow path of totality across 13 U.S. states. A detailed map of each state along the path of totality can be found below. The yellow lines outline the limits of the path of totality in each state. The green middle line represents the eclipse centerline, where totality lasts the longest in each state. The grey lines show the path of totality entering and exiting each state. To experience the total phase of the eclipse in each state, you must be within the yellow lines. The closer you are to the green centerline, the longer totality will last. Areas outside the path of totality will get a partial solar eclipse only.

Remember that you must use special eclipse safety glasses or viewers at all times during the partial phases of a total solar eclipse. The NationalEclipse.com Eclipse Store offers a wide variety of certified safe eclipse glasses and viewers.

Some good maps here to be sure if you are or are not in the path.

Right down I-57 to Marion.
I might have to look into hotel rooms now, so I can throw doggie in the car and head down there.
The centerline on the map runs right through Marion.

...we are in the 95% range down here. Might want to hurry for a hotel room. Room rates are getting jacked up.

I can drive back & forth in a day.
Thanks for the heads up.
4+ hours of driving for 4 minutes might(!) not be worth it.

I was lucky enough to see the 2017 total eclipse and the 2023 annular eclipse.

Both were magical. A friend described it as "The universe reaching down and grabbing you by the throat!"

...I was in Shanghai in July of 2009. So, I did get to see a total eclipse in my lifetime.
If I had never witnessed one, I would drive down there for sure.

I might drive a short distance to get a longer exposure to Totality.

Gonna bring a pot to bang on to scare off that monster that is eating the sun....

North of I-64 right before crossing from Illinois into Indiana.

Schools are closed and most hotels and campsites are booked. This is a very rural area, so it should be interesting!
