Need HELP with this LIE...32,000 Scientist against AGW
I know this is just yet another game the Denialist play to confuse & use the general populist into thinking there is "REAL" opposition to Anthropogenic Global Warming/Climate Change.
I know the people signing this petition do not qualify to speak out against AGW...Or at least most of them do not. I know there are many other flaws to the claim that 32,000 "Scientist" have come out in opposition...What I need is help explaining this to a friend who has recently bought in to the propaganda! Can someone point me to a website or provide me with some creditable sources that explains the trick be played by the Denialist? Thank-you!

1. Try Snopes if the meme has gone viral.
I think they simply swapped the "for" and "against" words when describing the 32,000 scientists and their positions on AGW. The deniers don't argue from facts anyways. Simply claim the scientists for your own position.

2. This only works
if you count every TV weathergirl in the country as a scientist.

3. My Name is Dr. Krispos, and I am against AGW.
I will gladly sign your petition against this scientific atrocity!
What am I a scientist of? Computers! I have a doctorate in computer science and engineering from UMass. Does that count? |

4. EXACTLY!
And from what I have found on my own only 9000 of the 32,000 even have PhDs. Out of the ones that do only around 200 are in Geosciences & most of those are not actively studying climate related topics.
It is SAD that so many Americans are clueless or lack just the basics critical thinking skills needed to sniff out BS when their faces are being rubbed in it! |

5. You mean my mom's MSW degree doesn't qualify her to weigh in on GCC?
Shocking!

Egg-zactly.
Did they ask scientists in the correct field, or dental hygienists? (one at my dentist thinks atheists worship the devil ![]() |

6. Sounds like the infamous Oregon Petition
There's a lot out there on it; you can Google "Oregon Petition" or try this and pages linked therein.

8. Here is a one stop climate denier debunker site...
http://www.skepticalscience.com/
Lots of good answers here. The 32,000 "scientists" are not climate scientists. On edit: This page is a direct refutation of that: http://www.skepticalscience.com/OISM-Petition-Project.htm --imm |

10. I have a couple of knuckleheads I discuss this with.
Actually, I just cut them off. They would just attack my sources. They really hated Skeptical Science -- and DU.
