Mike is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University and is a member of the Jackson Street Church of Christ, where he serves as song leader.
Senator Walsworth was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representative in 1995 and re-elected in 1999 and 2003. He is a past chairman of the Republican Legislative Delegation. He won election to the Louisiana Senate in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee and is a floor leader for Governor Jindal. He served as the chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Homeland Security and remains on the committee as a member.
Mike also proudly serves as vice-chair of the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee, dealing with ethics, open meetings, and confirmations of appointees to the various boards and commissions. Another important post he holds is a membership on the Senate Education Committee, the only North Louisiana Senator on the panel.
Senator Walsworth also continues to serve as a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, the Legislative Audit Advisory Council and as a interim member of the Senate Finance Committee.
