LA state senator shows his ignorance asking for 'proof' of evolution

"I don't think that word means what you think it means!" Louisiana, like a lot of red states, is trying to have creationism taught as science. Senator Mike Walsworth-R, starts his 17th year in the Legislature as the 2012-2016 term begins. He is a lifelong resident of Northeast, Louisiana, and one of the area's longest serving members of the Legislature. His daughter, Lindsay, made Senator Walsworth very happy when she gave birth in late 2011 to his first grandchild, Conner Michael.

Senator Walsworth is married to Dawne Smith Walsworth of West Monroe and they have four sons, Chris, Zach, Kayden, and Corbin and a son-in-law, Jeff Cobb

Mike is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University and is a member of the Jackson Street Church of Christ, where he serves as song leader.

Senator Walsworth was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representative in 1995 and re-elected in 1999 and 2003. He is a past chairman of the Republican Legislative Delegation. He won election to the Louisiana Senate in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee and is a floor leader for Governor Jindal. He served as the chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Homeland Security and remains on the committee as a member.

Mike also proudly serves as vice-chair of the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee, dealing with ethics, open meetings, and confirmations of appointees to the various boards and commissions. Another important post he holds is a membership on the Senate Education Committee, the only North Louisiana Senator on the panel.

Senator Walsworth also continues to serve as a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, the Legislative Audit Advisory Council and as a interim member of the Senate Finance Committee.
