What we know, and don’t know, about how Jews voted in New York

Thought this was interesting, the liberal Jewish results were predictable imo, what surprised me was the conservative Jewish votes favoring Cruz. Trump has some "Jewish credentials" his daughter married a modern orthodox guy and she formally converted, you folks know that to convert under orthodox and conservative authorities it takes a lot of time and effort. One must learn Hebrew, learn the liturgy and history of Judaism and in conservative shuls have a bar/bat mitzvah, where you lead services and daven the parsha and/or the haftorah. No easy task.

The fact that Cruz, who is in my opinion even crazier and more dangerous than trump was favored by the orthodox shows that evangelical Christians have been VERY successful in finding common cause with orthodox Jews (and some conservative Jews). Hagee and his organization Christians United for Israel have a lot to do with that in my opinion.

Been saying that for years.

I am Orthodox, or at least Conservadox (I attend shul at a Chabad), and have seen this trend line increasing. I am very much the lone voice of liberalism in my shul, and tolerated because of my age.

American Evangelicals, on moral/social issues and also political, line up very tightly with a lot of Orthodox. Theologically, too, differing on really one point --- whether a certain Nazarine was/is the Mosiach.

And Cruz, for all his loonyness, is a very, very smart guy. And a good lawyer. He'd make a fine Jewish scholar. So he's attractive, in that his intellect and manner is familiar.

Bernie is a borderline Satmar with his opinions of Israel, so he was right out. It's probably the only place in which I disagree with him.

Anyway, I watched the results with some interest -- and, as predicted, Cruz got thumped in NY --- but came awful close to getting one Congressional District --- Crown Heights, my old stomping grounds.
