Priest takes over Bay Area parish and says girls can't be altar servers.
From California;The new practice is making waves at the century old church Star of the Sea. Since the 70s, theyve used altar girls during masses.
And here's the priest's excuse;
The specifics of serving at the altar is a priestly function, Illo said. And the Catholic church does not ordain women.
Some people have left the parish over this. Someone really needs to explain to this idiot that not everyone who serves at the altar is going to be going on to ordained ministry. Most of my uncles at one point or another served at the altar back when it was boys only and were never ordained.

Father Joseph Illo took over five months ago and decided to train only boys to be altar servers. He said he has no choice but to exclude girls because the future of the church is at stake.
