to get into the playoffs.

Chargers are 8-6 with Colts tonight. The Rams at home and then at the horrible Broncos.

Miami is at the Pars and then have the Jets at home. Doable? Maybe but I’d expect the Chargers to get 10 wins.

They failed him mostly in the first two years by saddling him with a head coach that didn't want him (Brian Flores wanted Jordan Love), then thought Jacoby Brissett and DeShaun Watson were better options, then did everything both actively and passively to sabotage him to the point where Tua was questioning whether he was good enough to be an NFL quarterback. They got him injured by forcing him in 2021 to play behind one of the worst performing offensive lines in modern NFL history, along with failing to put enough skill players around him to help him succeed. The offensive coaching staff in 2021 was a dysfunctional clusterF*** that couldn't put together a scheme to take advantage of the things Tua did well.

In some ways, Tua is still like a rookie quarterback trying to figure out the game at the professional level as this is the first season he's had real NFL level coaching. The Dolphins squandered his first two years of development by having in place a head coach who couldn't put together or keep an offensive coaching staff (Flores went through FIVE offensive coordinators in 3 years). Tua may well become another example of a top level college quarterback who fails at the NFL level because he has the unfortunate circumstance to go to a team who fails to develop him and/or surround him with a supporting cast. Go back in NFL history and you can easily find multiple examples of such players, Archie Manning, David Carr, and Andrew Luck come immediately to mind. All three were eventually broken physically by their respective teams' lack of offensive line talent.

In 2022, the Dolphins made multiple course and scheme corrections that has elevated Tua's play, but there is still more that can be done. They need to find a blue chip level LG to further solidify the middle of the offensive line, they need a RB1 that will put fear in the hearts of opposing defenders and coordinators to the point where they can't drop LBs to clog the middle routes, and they need to find a TE that can both block and pass catch. As much as I like Mike Gesecki as a pass catcher, his deficiencies as a blocker makes him a poor fit in the current offensive scheme. And at this point, they also need to address the LBs and defensive secondary, the former has underperformed the last 3 seasons and the latter (once a strength) was decimated by injuries this season.
