Damn Dodgers!!!
I didn't want to see any of the HUGE payroll teams advance to the NLCS. That's where the Giants and Dodgers should have been meeting in the first place, a full 7-game series, not 5.
BOOOOOOOOO!!!

1. It's great to have...
...the umpires on your side. Ask Kris Bryant.
MLB got what they wanted...a mega market team moving on. The ball and strike calls in this series were all over the place. It was a joke. |

2. I'm fully in favor
of automating balls and strikes. The technology exists and is now proven. Just like both leagues should have a designated hitter. Let's move on!

7. It would be a welcome relief...
...technology is already exposing how bad the umps are with the strike zone right there on the screen. Not only that, the umps aren't even consistent, changing with the reputation of the pitcher or the batter.
I also love how announcers say that this ump has a "wide zone" or "gives" the low pitch or the "high strike." Batters are faced with expanding the zone based on the umpire's rep. Pitchers are forced to pitch to it. With the speed and movement of the modern pitcher there is no way in hell that a human can come close to being accurate. Bring on RoboUmp! (Unfortunately, the umpires union won't "allow" it...) |

Yeah, that wasn't a strike to end the game. He didn't break his wrists.
Dodgers move on though, to the NLCS ... |

4. The home plate ump was horrible tonight. Talk about a generous strike zone.
I’m all for going to the computers calling balls and strikes via K-zone. Let the home plate ump call other things, but not balls and strikes.

I have no dog in the fight, although I am in Los Angeles, and yes that umpire had a 'generous' floating strike-zone for one team and not the other. As the person stated up thread, they got the markee teams they wanted closer to the World Series.

6. Shoulda been 7. You're right about that.
Also, shouldn’t have 107-wins playing 106-wins in the first round (a stupid stupid 3-out-of-5 round, to purposely belabor that point.)
But them’s the rules. |

8. But rules can be updated, Iggo
And the proper seeding of teams by MLB is one of those rules that is begging to be changed.

9. Yep, I'm with you there.
Whichever team lost this one was gonna get righteously screwed, even without the bad call. A hundred wins should mean more than facing another hundred win team in the first round. That’s just not right.
And five game series are just stupid. |
