Adios, Bobby V.

I think Bobby V. just got fired.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said in an interview on WEEI on Thursday he’d like to move faster the next time he has to fill the field manager position.

He did not comment on the status of current manager Bobby Valentine, but when asked about his approach if a manager change was necessary, Cherington’s response was interesting.

“What we know we need to do is hit the ground running this offseason. One of the things as I look back on last offseason that didn’t go perfectly was simply the amount of time that we spent on the manager search and what that did to the rest of the offseason,” Cherington said. “I would like to spend less time on it this offseason, that’s for sure.”

There was no follow-up to the comment, which came at the end of the interview on the Dennis & Callahan program.

Did someone tell him he's holding his cards backwards? Iggo Sep 2012 #1
Which is weird because Cherington didn't have a manager search last time. hughee99 Sep 2012 #2

Cherington had a list and Bobby V. wasn't on it. Then Larry Luccino stepped in. Perhaps the problem last time was having Luccino make the call.

I hear Cherington didn't want Bobby V and was over-ruled...wanted what's his name who went with the Cubs.
