I'm not sure this is the place to put this, but

I've been in a couple musical groups and did a little lyric writing for one of them (arranging for the other). One was a slightly weird small choral group, focusing largely on traditional Irish music in Irish and English. The other was eclectic folk with an Irish bent, which allowed for a lot more original stuff.

I offered this one to the second group, but nobody was interested. It was written in 2010? the last edit was in 2012, so some time ago. It was well before Trump, anyway. There's no tune.

They told us to stay in our boxes, little boxes
Keep our heads down, don’t speak up, keep our noses clean
What they meant was, we never should talk to each other
If they keep us apart, we can’t be a large team.

(Chorus)
If they keep us divided, you know we’ll stay conquered
They know if we notice, we’ll keep them in line
If we work together, we’ve got them outnumbered
So I’ll vote for yours, bub, if you’ll vote for mine.

If we followed their rules and stayed out of their bizness
If we weren’t so damned lazy and took the right path
They say we could all be the top one percenters
Once they’ve killed all the schools, we won’t know that’s bad math

(Chorus)

Well, rights come by quota, we can’t just all have them
Whatever I get, there’s that much less for you
If you do well, I don’t; at least that’s what they tell us
But they profit by fear and it’s none of it true

(Chorus)

This ain’t summer camp and there’s no Kumbaya here
God knows, you annoy me beyond all belief
But the thing of it is, folks, they’re trying to kill us
If we don’t pull together, we’ll get no relief

(Chorus)

Vote! Nobody gets everything they want, at least not right away. The President is neither Emperor, nor God. Vote for the best Senator you can, knowing there are 49 others you can't control. (Although you'll get around to the other one of yours later.) Representatives are a crap shoot, but if you don't do your part, there'll be one less on your side.

Just keep taking another little chunk of their ass. If you don't, you have no chance of getting the whole thing. President is the glamor vote, but mid-terms are the big deal. The world is run by those who show up.

I do the same! I have lyrics on the poetry page. One called Modern Day Shunning (about hypocritical “Christians”) and one I posted today called Who Am I Now. That one has the music because I’ve begun teaching myself to play guitar. It’s hard! If you have time, I’d love it if you’d check them out!
