Nance-Holt praised Clinton for reaching out to mothers who lost children to police or gun violence.
That other candidate on the Democratic side did not reach out to us, Nance-Holt said of Bernie Sanders. You want my vote, you better work for it. Shes working for our vote. Im not going to give it you just because you say you can do free college, because if my child is dead, he cant go to college, she said of Sanders popular college plan.

So, 20 years later and look at what we have.
In some cases it might even be worse, as I am reminded of so many recent deaths.

(109,020 posts)she wasn't endorsing either one of them. She made the expected criticisms of Hillary, from Angela's point of view as a "radical activist."
But the reason she won't endorse Bernie is because of his blind spot on racial issues. She thinks he thinks everything can be reduced to economic inequality and she disagrees.
With regard to your point, I'm not sure it's worse now -- but we, as a country, have been turning a blind eye to it and now we can't. Obama's Presidency has forced us to confront it.

Someone like Angela Davis can be expected not to support either, makes sense to me.
Hell, I think it makes sense if the entire black community sat out some elections, they wont but it would make sense.
You see the problem of racism and being shot for being black is not of their making, so they cant fix it. The only people who can fix it are white people and there seems to be a whole lot of them whining about not voting if their candidate doesnt win.
They make me mad, nobody else, really.

As much as I'm sick to fucking death of Hillary vs Sanders fights taking place in the Group when unless it's that fight the general membership ignores us (just like America at large until it needs to blame something on us) - I'm going to leave the OP and let's you guys duke it out.
Hint - other ways black children die -
Inadequate pre natal care
Lead paint
Poisoned water
Unfair treatment in emergency rooms/doctors offices even by BLACK doctors

That said, "you don't really care" is an incredible assumption you've made, based on I do not no what.
Here's what I said:
Racism is widely acknowledged and that acknowledgement has meant only so much. So what action will an HRC admin do to combat that.
Now, you point out, and I respond:
Inadequate pre natal care...Sanders health plan
Lead paint and poisoned water...Sanders infrastructure plan
Unfair treatment in emerging rooms/doctors offices even by BLACK doctors...I have NO idea what to do. But I'm listening.

(31,980 posts)Those were for you to answer / debate with pnwmom.
I don't believe in Sanders plans or that he will accomplish it so those are wasted words on me.
But since you pointed out -
White people will be livid if one single woman who is black gets access to prenatal care is not married and or under the age of 18. It will be just like the New Deal - skin color based means testing.
Infrastructure is 5/6 years off. You need to train all of the black and Latino kids America cheated out of fair elementary, middle and high school education - who won't meet the standards for the free college. Business As Usual until then.
Last one - go one step more -
I'm 43 black and rich. What happens if I get breast cancer? I'm much more likely to die than a white woman on the poverty line as the best care is reserved for her.
Sanders wants to tax us an additional 30k a year - when I need that money to fly to Rome, rent an apartment and undergo treatment to have a shot. Just received my Italian citizenship. My answer? Leave us alone. If I have the access to go and be treated like a human being - shame on America for not giving us the same "virtue of womanhood". This country has reaped what it has sown - my cynical attitude and desire for self preservation.
This country takes and takes from black people and we are supposed to believe in a second New Deal now? After the massive cheat and tax grab on the last one?
When a country shows you what it is - believe it.
In the meantime the woman highlighted in the OP has a right to smirk at Sanders. She earned it with tears!
Wilms
(26,795 posts)And I disagree with many of the positions you stated. Vigorously.
But at the same time, I recognize that "This country has reaped what it has sown" and how that credibly leads to a "cynical attitude and desire for self preservation".
I am truly sorry for this mess. I think your view is wrong. But I think I "get" what you're saying, too.

(31,980 posts)It is a FACT - 42% higher death rate.
Red Lining and keeping blacks corralled for 38 years is a FACT - not a view.
Many black "professions" were left out of Social Security - another FACT.
As a result of red lining - there are severe disparities in pre University level ability.
Free College -
Can come after a 3-5 year implementation called Even It Up. A black family making 31K a year in Newark NJ shouldn't have to pay another 3k in taxes a year to send a white kid from Edison to Rutgers - until they see their grade school receieve the same equipment and tool as the Edison School District. Prove to us you really intend for ALL to be able to get into and succeed at Rutgers. Tax me another 10K to do it. Spread that money out across the weakest school districts in the country. You want to kill charter schools in Newark and Christian schools down South? Show those kids parents we want strong across the board public schools.
And how can you disagree with someone getting better healthcare in another country? My dad joked right in front of my husband after we got engage - I don't know G - she might just be out for an Italian health care card!
Wilms
(26,795 posts)I am aware of the shitty health care Black women receive, even with really good plans. Though I didn't know about the AA docs.

(68,867 posts)All of the issues Bernie rails about are acknowledged....
Sure, Wall Street bad/Main Street good,
sure, A college education shouldn't leave those graduating in debt,
sure, the 1% have more than the 99%....
sure, there's too much money in politics....
Sure, would be great if we had single payer healthcare
And?
What's his railing about the issues supposed to do?
Bernie Sanders is the exact candidate who knows how to tell one what the problem is,
and yet has presented unrealistic solutions that would not pass congress....
So what's Bernie's plan besides a "revolution"? Please do tell!
Are the solutions he proffers ones that he can actually get done
without congress? Will he dictate to Cities and Towns and States what they
will have to do? Will he decide that Gun Control was a great idea after all?
Or is it the revolution (that ain't materialized) that will solve all problems?
And tell us how this hypothetical revolution solves racism?
So somehow, if Hillary points out that the first thing that must be done is to acknowledge that racism exists
(cause many White Folks don't think that it does...hence "All Lives Matter" ,
And yet your response is "What is that supposed to do?
and what else is her plan to bring racists to heel?"....as though that is the only thing she suggests?

As to racism, has Sanders NOT acknowledged it? (As if we've not beat that subject.) And what is it that Hillary WOULD do? Please specify.

People of a race generally suffer violence at the hand of someone of the same race. The only reason "Black on Black violence" is a thing is because it puts us (black people) in relief compared to the supposed "norm".
You want to talk about the causes of inner city violence? That's great! But if you want to be heard, start with dropping this GOP meme.

(31,980 posts)Ask Rahm Emanuel to resign? Why would she take that up?
Like - can we get real? She and Sanders can go to Chicago tomorrow and lead a protest and it is not going to happen. He has no respect or consideration for anyone but himself and that's been apparent since he called us 'retards'.
The people who need to demand that are the citizens of Chicago.
As awful as Christie is - I'd be pissed if some outsider demanded he resign. Phil Murphy (running for governor of NJ) I'm fine with that -but Clinton? Sanders?

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2016/03/12/tough-words-from-bernie-sanders-on-rahm-emanuel/
The senator stopped short of calling for Mr. Emanuel to resign. But he said that if he lived in Chicago, he would join the efforts to have him step down. Many Sanders supporters in Chicago have been demanding the mayor resign for months.
Adam Collins, a spokesman for Mr. Emanuel, said in a statement Saturday night that Mr. Sanderss comments were the kind of typical campaign rhetoric you get this time of year.
The Mayor is proud to have actually implemented a program to provide free college tuition in Chicago, instead of just talking about the idea, Mr. Collins said. On Wednesday Bernie Sanders will leave town and take his empty promises with him, and Mayor Emanuel will be right here doing the hard work to move Chicago forward and create opportunities for our residents
What's funny is there was no way Sanders WAS getting an endorsement from Emanuel. Maybe Clinton can now say she's glad she doesn't have an endorsement from Killer Mike!

She also didn't vote for the bill that protected the armed, vigilante Minutemen from having their locations divulged to Mexican border authorities (which Bernie did, followed by the "everybody does it" excuse.)
