(16,974 posts)straw buying is illegal. She is going to jail. Do not know the case but I think it should be more time than that.

If the national media gives the verdict enough publicity, it might stop a lot of people from straw purchasing firearms.

(17,502 posts)The straw purchase is a federal rap. The 18 months is similar to sentences I have seen for unregistered NFA items. I think a state can pass a law that says that if the feds get you for a straw purchase, you become and accessory or co conspirator for any crime committed with that gun. Not being a lawyer, maybe not. Worth exploring.

Passing such a law at either the state or federal level would undoubtedly have far more effect on gun violence than passing another assault weapons ban or limiting the number of rounds a magazine can legally hold.
