I’m embarrassed to say I can’t remember which one. He was a die-hard republican. He’s been gone for 10 years or so, but recently I’ve wondered with all the republican talk about camps etc how he would feel. He was appalled at the Germans and what they had done.

what's happening now esp. after his experiences during the war and what he expressed to you about the Nazis.

I saw a comment recently, possibly here that gave me a shiver. It was about how the hard Reich waited just enough time for veterans and others who lived through WW2 to be almost all gone .. before trying to implement an anti democratic, authoritarian regime. Let's hope that never happens! Thanks for the reply.

That losing our WWI veterans and those at home who gave so much for the war effort has allowed fascism to return much more easily.
