(6,560 posts)I moved the youngest kitten into the house the first of November because he would have never survived the winter outside. He was too small and too young. My two 6 year old kitties are not amused! Thank you for caring for the feral kitties. They need people like us in the winter to help them survive.

(18,674 posts)I beep beep my car lock and shut the trunk lid at the feeding site. They come running. Literally...like puppies! Circling my feet, just nuts. Not all... the tabby and fluffies are more reserved but the b/w kitties are adoring of me.
There are several abandoned houses nearby plus some apartments and I know at least 2 sleep under the house where I feed them. It's kind of a downtrodden area. But they are the light of my day!

You make their day, and they make your day!

(18,674 posts)but it is not a chore at all. It's 5 min from my house. I am just tickled when I use the clicker and I whistle and they come running. I love them so. Our group has one other colony this size but the rest are smaller: 1-4 cats.

(18,674 posts)houses next door and the apartments are behind it. It's a touchy situation as I of course had to get permission from the residents to feed there. They are renters and her bro in law is the owner, allegedly, so it's kinda on the QT. I truly think several of the tabbies are owned or otherwise cared for but they come eat and I fixed them, so they're 'mine!'

(21,931 posts)you get them fixed too. I love it. They look like teddy bears.
I watch a 24/7 cat cam called TinyKittens. Maybe you know about it? She lives in British Columbia and also takes care of ferals and has had luck in socializing some enough to get them adopted. So I have seen it with my own eyes. I used to believe (like a lot of people still think) that feral cats could never become socialized and now I know that some of them can. I love what you are doing.

(18,674 posts)about a month ago then we saw he had an abscess on his back leg. To the vet... he was 'crate-able' and didn't need trapping. Got him stitched up and he was SO GOOD about not licking his stitches I left the cone off. Lesson learned (he DID lick them out the day before they were to be remove!), and another $200! Leave the cone on. So... this Sat out come the stitches and he has a HOME!
Look at this gorgeous boy...I call him Midas!
Last year we spayed/neutered 170 cats/kittens. Some we adopted out but most were and remain feral.

(1,303 posts)One floor with a loft with cat beds and a heat lamp for winter. It had a front and back door built like a squared off S so it kept the wind out but offered an escape route if a preditor entered. He trapped the mama and her four small kittens and one older kitten and had them all nuetered. When he had to move he left the cat motel in the back yard but since the mama and one of the kittens had gotten people friendly and started coming in the house to visit, he took those two as well as his two with him. He rented the house until late last year when he put it on the market. The person he rented to continued to feed the feral cats that still visited at night. I have no idea if the new owners still do or not. He just recently had to have the mama cat put down because of issues from living in the wild so long without vet care.

(14,337 posts)That was nine years ago when she moved into her house. She had all neutered and spayed. Mom cat was the most difficult to capture to bring to get spayed.
The numbers today are down to only 5. Disappeared over the years, including Mom Cat. Only one of the the original litter still comes around.
BTW, they are all Orange except for one surviving member who is a long haired Black and White like his Mom.
