Related: About this forumJust adopted a Rat Terrier from the SPCA. . .
She's two-years-old and very cute. I'll have to post photos when I have them. Her name is Lucy-- black & white.
Do any of you have experience with a Rat Terrier? I read an amusing article that stated that Rat Terriers have a low tolerance for small things that go "squeak" and run and are "quickly dispatched."
So far she gets along great with my other dog (Chihuahua mix), but she (the rat terrier) is a bit jealous, but that's ok--The Chihuahua can handle Lucy!!
Thanks!

(12,253 posts)The dog guarded my sister fervently, and would snarl and bark at my mother when she came to wake her for school. He was devoted to her. Good luck to you and Lucy (and The Chihuahua). Terriers have lots of energy.

I wish all of you the best.
Be sure to put her picture - and the other dog's too - in our picture gallery. It is the post pinned to the top of this group.

(51,453 posts)use a tractor to move hog houses around and the rats would run out into the open and in all directions when we did it. Our Rat Terrier could get 2 or 3 of them.

(70,090 posts)they are supposed to kill vermin, but not bother chickens and such. they are basically farm dogs. mine are very respectful of my parrots, but little budgies seem a little more like food to them. my first rat would let my daughter's budgie sit on him, and even bite him, tho.
very loyal and eager to please IF you can convince them that you are the pack leader. if not, well, it won't be pretty.
take both dogs for a couple long walks together and they should be pals. mine are kinda snotty to the bully dogs. they are sisters and closer than any 2 dogs i have ever had. really very sweet. they lick each other, and sleep all tangled up.
teach her to fetch if she doesn't already know. they need a lot of diversion.
good luck with her.
yours look a lot like mine. I'm not at home now but will post pics when I'm back next week.
