a day below 90 degrees since June. It has been brutal. High temps, low (or no) rainfall. Donald Trump hot air--a summer from hell all round. Hoping I can find a way to survive until October.

On a brighter note, my sister and I canned 22 quarts of tomatoes yesterday & today. About 5 quarts have okra. All is not lost!! We will rejoice this winter when we can use our own homegrown tomatoes for soup.

I live in the southwest and we missed the first month of our monsoon season, when we get the most rain all year. We've had a lot of triple digit days and most of the rest last month were within a couple of degrees of hitting them.

Today was our second rain storm. The monsoon season will be over in a week or so.

I hope this summer has been an aberration, an overcorrection for last year's record El Nino. Otherwise, I'm going to have to move. The Atacama looks good--it's higher so it's cooler.

summer dinner. Cold Borscht soup & fresh rye bread. I stopped at the Farmer's Market & picked up the bread & my 86 year old mom made the soup. I don't regularly let mom in the kitchen to make a meal, but this was simple enough & she only had to use the stove to cook the beets.
