Valentine Cake Memory

So many of our memories are tied to favorite foods and family gatherings where food was shared. I grew up in a family with 6 kids and my mother was a cake baker. She had a cake for every occasion. For Valentine's Day, she'd pull out her heart shaped cake pans and bake devil's food cake. She iced the layers in white 7 minute icing and sprinkled crushed peppermint on top. What a great cake, we kids all looked forward to that cake.

We also got a heart-shaped cake for Valentine's day, only a French Vanilla cake with pink icing and candles for our birthday.

with an 8X8 pan and a round cake and frosting it with strawberry butter cream frosting. It looks pretty easy and I just can't spend the money for a specialty cake pan.

Nice memory. I think the 7 minute icing was my mom's and that drew back a memory reading it.
