(22,143 posts)The daughter of a childhood friend is a contestant. It was taped three weeks ago and my husband flew out to LA to be in the audience
We are on our way to Pgh. to visit with them before the rest of the party arrives and then watch the Steelers on MNF.
Her name is Angela in case anyone else watches.

(146,218 posts)I love jeopardy, but we can't get it in our present location.
Do you know the outcome or has everyone been able to keep quiet about it?

(22,143 posts)My husband called me from the studio the day of the taping and I congratulated Angie. She finished in 2nd place, but she did not get any of the questions that she answered wrong. In fact, she knew all of the answers and only got beat because she didn't time the buzzer right.
We had a great time at the party and watching the show with her .

(146,218 posts)did great! I thought she was going to make it there for a minute, but that champion kicks butt.
She seems like a really bright and interesting person. Congratulations to her!

(22,143 posts)Her husband is in Germany doing a fellowship at a university there. They set up Skype on an I-pad so he could watch it with us. Of course it was 2:00 a.m. in Germany, but he drank plenty of coffee so he would be awake for the show. Angie and the kids will join him in December. We will miss all of them.

(146,218 posts)Hope she enjoys Germany. So good for kids to get international exposure, imo.
Anyway, glad you had fun. There was a DU member on jeopardy once (Mr Coffee, I believe).

... with mozzarella -- both items sautéed in butter and Worcestershire -- and
horseradish mashed potatoes.

It was AMAZING!!!
.
I only cooked half of what I had on hand, so odds are, I'll be having the same
thing for dinner tomorrow night. I may trade the potatoes for Brussels sprouts.

Does anyone else pretend you're a fairytale giant eating whole cabbages when
you eat them?

I refused to stop playing with my food as a child... and I see no reason to start
now.

It's been a long time since I've had stuffed mushrooms and these are from a
new (and much better) source. It's the first time I've sautéed them instead of
just baking them -- and it's the first time I've prepared them with Worcestershire
(though that's how I sauté plain mushrooms). It's how I will do them in the
future.

I've got a big slice of mixed berry pie for dessert. I believe I'm going to heat it
and surround it with French Vanilla coffee creamer.

Enjoy your pie!

(24,146 posts)i used navy, black and pinto beans in it. it was supposed to be chicken chili, but the chicken wound up in the freezer and i just never pulled it out.
it was the corn bread that really stole the show, though. i think it was the best cornbread i've ever made.

(106,886 posts)Nor sure how I'll spice the chop. May do a simple salt/pepper/thyme rub. Or Chinese 5 spice rub.

(39,961 posts)so you know that it will be Red Beans and Rice, but I got a turkey sausage. My mom told me not to cook it (I went over and cooked because she is swamped and I finally wasn't) because it gives Dad gout. I don't know what to do now, the beans are fantastic with understated glorious spices. I suspect she told me no sausage just because she doesn't like it.
How do I manage this with a good dish, and dealing with a Mom that get's pissed off when I cook a shade better than she does.
She's happy that I am cooking biscuits, but is adamant about no sausage in the red beans. She has been crabby since her tooth fell out.

(146,218 posts)Aerows
(39,961 posts)is that every bite has something different in it. One bite is mild, one bite is a bean. One bite has onion, one bite has a stray red pepper flake . That's why it goes so well with sausage.
It's like a bag of Harry Potter Jelly beans where every bite is good without the awful ones.
Sausage adds to it. But I'll hold back. It really needs sausage, but I am good at refraining.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)It's got that great skin that snaps when you bite it. I would just put a cooked link on the plate, not mix it in with the beans.

(106,886 posts)I come from a family where "spirited discourse" was common and encouraged. But food issues minimized for all. More time to spend on the table talk.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)But thank you, I will keep it in mind while we eat these fantastic RB&R.
I still feel badly that I'm going to tempt everyone with some great sausage, but I think the biscuits will make up for it.

(106,886 posts)Great dish, yet I've never made it myself.

(39,961 posts)with baking soda for about 5 hours. Skipping this step, and the Baking Soda, will result in beans that do not soften, and don't thicken properly. You MUST do this step. Overnight will do.
Once that is done, strain them, then you put them in a pot for about 3 more hours with adequate water just to cover them, and then throw in the ingredients:
1. 1-2 Yellow Onion, diced
2. 5-6 cloves of garlic, diced
3. 4 Stalks diced celery (adds salty taste without sodium *It's potassium)
4. Pepper of your choice
5. Half a sleeve of butter (4 tablespoons)
6. Trappey's hot sauce - it is the vinegar off of the lovely sport peppers - do that to taste
Cook, covered, on very low heat for several hours or in a crock pot. That's how I do it.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)then cooked the beans for as long as I wanted.
And I always put half the beans in a blender, then back in the pot because I like them creamy.
But every cook has their own method and yours sounds great.

(39,961 posts)I'm allergic to too much Bell Pepper, and seek to eradicate it from every recipe I have LMAO
I can't stand it, and it can't stand me, either. Other peppers and I are great friends.

(35,669 posts)I am so happy I have some stuffed peppers to heat up.They are even better the second 'round. They are in a clay pot.
I injured myself last night and have no ability to cook, so this is very nice to have.
They are stuffed with bacon/cheeseburger miniature burgers and layered with vegetable mixture of rice, celery, onion, zucchini, herbs, and garlic. I topped it with tomato sauce, cheese, and a cherry tomato. Gorgeous!
Vegetables on the side are carrots, leeks, and potato.
Dessert is one dark-chocolate covered cookie.
White wine.

(35,669 posts)A few days ago a glass container fell off my bedside stand. It was heavy, thick glass and only broke into a few pieces. I swept it up but didn't realize a splinter traveled all the way to a rug.
I stepped on the splinter in the middle of the night. Not only did I not get any sleep, it's painful as can be. I cannot get it out. I am now investigating a magnesium sulfate salve to draw it out.
Missed one class this a.m. My afternoon classes thought I was crazy to show up.
I'd go to the doc, but my doctor is always a long wait. I'll try this first and if it doesn't work, then go see her. She's terrific, but very busy.
The homemade comfort food--my stuffed peppers--
made all the difference in the world. As long as I stay off my foot, I'm OK!
Thanks for asking. I prob'ly told you more than you wanted to know, LOL.

(146,218 posts)Glass will generally work itself out, but you take the risk of infection if it stays too long. Please put antibiotic cream on it.
Maybe you could just see your doctor's nurse who could take it out?
I could do it if you were here. I have a killer medical kit on board.
NJCher
(35,669 posts)I have an antibiotic on it and tonight when I go to bed, I'm going to apply magnesium sulfate.
Hmmmmm. Killer medical kit? LOL.
Thanks for the nurse suggestion. I'll give 'em a call and see what they say.
