Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumWorst package of bacon ever!
I'm so glad I used up the last of it this morning. The problem? It had something you don't often see: a greater proportion of meat to fat. I'm sure there are some who would see this as a benefit, but it cooked up so terribly, I had to stand over it and keep tunring it more often to keep it from burning, even on very low heat. Also, with so little fat, it didn't taste as good.
This would have been a good candidate for baking it in the oven. I know lots of people like to do that, but I don't. I mean, sure it's convenient, but it always ends up laying in a huge puddle of all the grease (moreso than just frying), and to me at least, has less flavor.

Thanks for the suggestion, tho. Appreciated.

(22,767 posts)I've had one like this. I assume it's "luck of the draw" based on the portion of the belly it was cut from.
