(2,804 posts)She has lost weight and swears by it, says it's a way of life for her now. I tried it but the low carbs made me too uncomfortable. I do between 50-75 carbs per day, and I lose weight slower but it's fairly steady.

(111,255 posts)it tends to stay off longer term.
The last diet that worked for me was the Covid diet. I couldn't taste or smell anything for a couple of months and the weight just fell off. It was drastic, I don't recommend it for anyone.

(13,895 posts)"slow" carbs. Low glycimic index with lots of fiber. 2:1 if I can do it.. I eat in a 4 to 6 hour window. After a few days I don't mind the fast. Late breakfast with a early dinner.
The weight comes off slow. Many studies have shown fasting and intermitent fasting is good for the body.
This is my go to guy. An MD who reads all the medical journal so you don't have to.
If you don't want to watch the vid you can just click on the "view transcript" tab. The medical reference is on the "sources cited" tab..YMMV

(32,675 posts)Then not so much. I now watch empty carbs, eat at least 70 grams of protein and run 5 to 6 miles every other day. 72 and staying in the 24-25 BMI range. Feel great and also got a pacemaker a year ago.
What ever works for you. I go by, eat to live not live to eat.
This seems to be the long term solution for me.

(2,302 posts)So I guess I qualify.
I'm a low-carber, and I have a moderate-sized dinner at 11. Then before bed, I have my "snacks," a homemade yogurt popsicle and a bag of Whisps (crackers made of cheese). And I feel fine! I do stretching exercises and then do 9 miles at moderate resistance on my recumbent bike. I WILL be ready for my daughter's wedding and I'm in pretty good shape now for a 71-year-old (who's lived a pretty lazy life).

(38,555 posts)But I don't think I could fast. I can just see myself overeating when it came time to eat.
I'd say that 80% of the carbs I'm eating are high in fiber.
I cut carbs for two reasons: my guy is diabetic (but not insulin dependent) and is ALWAYS complaining that he doesn't feel well; and I have put on weight since the pandemic and would like to lose a few pounds.
I think if my guy stuck to eating what I make for meals, he'd be okay, but he's always adding high carb snacks, especially late at night after I'm in bed. I can't control what he does, but since I make the meals, I can control the meals.
