When will the media get over it and realize fat people will ALWAYS exist in society?
I just found two stories in the media about (gasp) OBESITY! First from the NY Times: "Obesity Rate Falls for New York Schoolchildren", then from the Guardian (UK): "Heavier children leads to call for drug dose update".
An excerpt from the NYT story: "The results, published Thursday in a report by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, showed that the declines in obesity were sharply higher among middle-class children than among poor children. They were also higher among white and Asian children compared with black and Hispanic children, and among very young children those entering kindergarten or first grade compared with older children." And the Guardian article basically reported that doctors in the UK are reconsidering doses for children as children's average weight is increasing. But once again the NYT isn't helping in social acceptance of fatter people and once again confirms most people association of poverty, laziness, and high weight.
However I've read this fat-acceptance blog KateHarding.net, and read the website's "Don't You Realize Fat is Unhealthy?" section to challenge the fat=unhealthy BS you've heard in the corporate (oh yeah weight loss/pharmaceutical industry-funded) media. Body-mass index also is flawed, and under BMI even professional athletes would be considered obese.
No wonder people can't be more open-minded. Even if HFCS were eradicated and all fast-food joints shut down, there are ALWAYS going to be fat people in society, won't there, especially considering the genetic factors for weight? There's a difference between being a fat couch potato and a fat health-conscious person.
