Pam Spaulding closing her LGBT site 'Pam's House Blend'

http://www.towleroad.com/2013/06/pam-spaulding-closing-her-lgbt-site-pams-house-blend.html

A sad day for the LGBT online community. Pam Spaulding, a veteran activist, prolific blogger, and friend of Towleroad is closing her long-running site Pam's House Blend, she writes in a post today:

All good things must come to an end, even after numerous awards and accolades, it’s time to acknowledge that I cannot continue to run on fumes alone. The Blend could continue limping along, but my health and well-being come first; over the last few years burning the candle at both ends with a full-time offline job and PHB. It has taken a severe toll — most readers have learned that I am dealing with chronic pain conditions — fibromylagia, and in the last couple of years, aggressive rheumatoid arthritis.

My decision to close the blog is just as reality-based as its content has been. If I cannot produce material at the frequency or with the same level of quality, enthusiasm and effectiveness, it’s really time to close the doors to this coffeehouse — and work to ensure it continues to have a life as an archive, a snapshot in our digital political history. Pamshouseblend.com will redirect to archives...

I understand completely.

It doesn't cost much to maintain a static site that's getting fewer and fewer hits.

Maybe I'd give the sites away for love, maybe I'll be crazy living in a cardboard box away from the internet without a dollar to spare, but I'm not selling.

time?

I don't know much about her business model, but she should have "Wonkette-ed" her site--leased it out, if not sold it. If she has medical issues it could help pay the bills.

(there was a lot of talk about it when she moved it to Firedoglake) she moved it to http://pamshouseblend.firedoglake.com a few years ago (rather than host it herself).

I didn't know the culture of the site at all, but I did think it had enough juice to be worth something.

I miss the "Media Horse" (nyuck nyuck) myself, still...but times change.

Surely there must be some who would be glad to write for the site from time to time.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.

Tell me more...
