Dubai flooding: Dozens of cars and buses abandoned

The first floor of nearly everything looked flooded, including the swamky shopping mall and fancy hotels. The airport had to shut down, the runways turned into rivers. The airport is chockablock packed with stranded tourists.

Wild. Where did the water go? I guess right into the sea. captain queeg Apr 18 #1
They should be so lucky. Water that falls in a desert tends to stick around Warpy Apr 18 #2

I wonder if there’s an estimate of acre-feet total?

in any dpressions, anyplace the topography isn't flat or raised. There is also going to be massive cleanup of all the glittering infrastructure, all entrances, lobbies, and ground floor kitchens were flooded. If they don't manage to get the water out, mildew will take over in that climate.

They also got wind damage, this was on hell of a storm.

Evenutally all the water will evaporate. I have to wonder if their desert will have a mega bloom the way the Atacama and other deserts do when they get a really rare heavy rainstorm.

I've always seen it as Disneyland for the nouveau riche. Accurate?

But then a large population of peon workers (mostly foreign) that are largely out of sight, out of mind. Lots of stuff that is officially forbidden, but commonly done. If you are in the right economic bracket.
