A Russian court has ordered the seizure of a billion dollar luxury resort belonging to a tycoon who criticised Vladimir Putins war in Ukraine.
The court order to seize the Imeretinskiy hotel and marina in Sochi, owned by Oleg Deripaska, an aluminium magnate, came after he was urged by the Kremlin to stop publicly criticising the war, the Financial Times reported.
Mr Deripaska is one of the few Russian tycoons to have voiced cautious criticism of the invasion of Ukraine.
He tweeted in March, calling for peace, saying that we have already passed a point of no return. He also warned that destroying Ukraine would be a colossal mistake.

(16,899 posts)With the economic sanctions put on Putin, he is desperate for money to finance his war. He is hellbent on destroying anyone who opposes him. Those who oppose such tactics, run the risk of being found DEAD if opinions are voiced. Those who admire such, are fucking crazy with fear if the opposite is true.

(51,090 posts)Deripaska was the one who negotiated with McConnell to put an enormous aluminum plant in Kentucky.
Because what could go wrong if we gave Putin's best pal control over the USA's aluminum production?
Luckily, McConnell couldn't deliver on his promise to protect Deripaska against sanctions, so the project is on a permanent-seeming hold while Deripaska "looks for more investors."
