Refugees tear through police lines at Macedonian border

Thousands of migrants stormed across Macedonia's border on Saturday, overwhelming security forces who threw stun grenades and lashed out with batons before apparently abandoning a bid to stem their flow through the Balkans to western Europe.

Some had spent days in the open with little or no food or water after Macedonia on Thursday declared a state of emergency and sealed its borders to migrants, many of them refugees from war in Syria and other conflicts in the Middle East.

But by nightfall on Saturday, thousands had crossed the frontier, milling around the border town of Gevgelija where busses had converged from all over the country and trains left in quick succession to take them north to the next leg of their journey through Serbia.

There was no official word from the government, but the level of organization suggested authorities had opted to move the migrants on as quickly as possibly, having tried and failed to keep them out with razor wire, teargas and stun grenades.

don't seem to give a shit about this.

It's all about the same Celebrity Porn and now "Election 2016 Celebrity Porn."

If I didn't have a Roku Box to get International News and didn't read this "Foreign Affairs Forum" here on DU an other internet Foreign Affairs articles from other countries news sources .....I would think that the Drone Wars are succeeding and that the Deal with Iran is a disaster and Russia and China are waiting to attack us along with ISIS and that's why we need more Drone Strikes and money for MIC.

There's no discussion here about those hundreds of thousands of Desperate Immigrants dying as they try to escape what WE in Coordination with our NATO Allies has done to cause this massive death and destruction.

I can barely read and watch anymore about Greece and Yemen and the Perils of the floods of "cheap labor if they survive" flooding into Europe looking for jobs.

Where is the ACCOUNTABILITY for THIS? When will it ever come? Who can we elect who will change the dialogue?

My signature line shows I'm a Bernie supporter...but, can I even really believe that he can change this? WHO "Can and Will Change" this Policy that has caused this misery and suffering in the ME when we have Conservatives being Elected in NATO Countries and those who TRY to make a CHANGE...seem to fail?

Oh well ...just a random rant.

Hundreds of refugees have passed through the Macedonian border from Greece unhindered a day after police used stun grenades in a failed bid to prevent them from crossing.

Al Jazeera's Andrew Simmons, reporting from Gevgelija on the Macedonian side of the border, said the refugees were boarding trains to take them from Macedonia to Serbia.

The refugees hope that by taking trains through Serbia, they will make it to Hungary and other EU member states.

Al Jazeera's Jonah Hull, reporting from Idomeni on the Greek side of the border, said the railway between the two nations was working again on Sunday.
