Freedumb! Walkerstan GOP Working To Axe Renewable Energy Targets, Ignoring Doyle Climate Plans

EDIT

A Doyle task force of business executives, environmentalists, Democrats and Republicans recommended that Wisconsin obtain 25% of its electric power from renewable sources by 2025.

But Republicans and the state's business lobby attacked it. A study underwritten by the conservative Wisconsin Policy Research Institute said the mandate would kill 43,000 jobs. A separate study by economists at Michigan State University and Southern California University said that keeping energy dollars in the state would promote a fledgling renewable industry and create more than 16,000 jobs.

Mayor Tom Barrett, the Democratic candidate for governor, said in February 2010 that Doyle's ambitious global-warming legislation needed to be scaled back. Two months later, the legislation failed to come up for a vote in the Democratic-controlled Senate Assembly.

Scott Manley, vice president of government relations for Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, said the reason nothing has changed is that "those kinds of policies would have disproportionately affected consumers, Wisconsin businesses and their employees in negative ways."
