And I suspect this is a pattern that will continue. As more and more short-term problems arise, we'll lose sight of the long-term and perhaps even the ability to respond to the long-term as we grapple with short-term survival.

That's the thing with "emergencies" - by necessity you focus on the "now" and the future arrives anyway.

If there isn't a dramatic new direction that emerges from this CV19 - in terms of cooperation, economy, etc then I fear there isn't much hope left.

Based on what I''m seeing.... not optimistic....

Getting rid of just Trump only incrementally helps (but I'll take it). The root problem is an electorate that took him seriously, despite being unfit for office, and the GOP part of Congress that chose self-interest over removing him.

Our country has become massively dysfunctional -- and COVID-19 won't be the last emergency that we fumble, whether or not Trump is in office.
