I am lucky my dad was a member

Of a labor union. I grew up in the 1950s and unions were healthy and strong then. I still support all unions except those of police unions. Their spokesmen are as ruthless as he NRA. They'll get what they deserve.

When they containerized the ships, he would have been out of work in his 50's except for the Union contract which stated that all union members must be paid if they were put out of work because of containerization. He still had to "ship" every day, but no work? He still got a paycheck for the day, plus he did not lose his pension or his medical benefits.

You want progress? Well, then you PAY for all the people whose jobs are eliminated because of it.
