Aldi to hire more than 20,000 U.S. workers ahead of holiday season

(Reuters) - Grocery chain Aldi said on Monday it is hiring more than 20,000 new workers and raising its wages in the United States as it gets ready for the busy holiday season at a time when retailers and restaurants are scrambling to find workers.
The U.S. arm of the German discount supermarket group said it has increased its average national starting wages for store and warehouse workers to $15 and $19 per hour, respectively.
Aldi will host a hiring week in September to fill an array of positions, including cashiers, stockers and associates, at its more than 2,100 stores and 25 warehouses across the country.
The company is one of the first retailers to announce hiring for the holiday season, which could account for up to 40% of annual sales for certain retailers.

(22,156 posts)pay, for its workers. Maybe more companies and republicans will eventually come around, that higher pay amd decent benefits might just solve the lack of labor issues, might solve the supply chain disruptions due to COVID.
Noticed that I said 'Maybe'...some companies, some people (especially in the republican house and senate) don't seem to think that people do deserve higher pay or decent benefits seemingly.
One thing for sure, the whole COVID mess forced the issue of substandard wages and/or benefits out into the open, forced a a lot of reckoning for a lot of people who received these lousy paychecks and/or benefits, and that republicans all along had prevented these lousy paychecks and/or benefits from increasing, literally since from the 1980s.
Again obvious proof that republicans represent only a tiny fraction of Americans (the 1%ers) and no one else.
They constantly predicted doom and gloom if wages were increased ... Ha ha! Republicans are LIARS! Look at the booming stock market still to this day, which is still increasing despite TFG predicting that the markets would collapse, and despite republicans stating that jobs would disappear...they still haven't.
And guess what, what economic classes of Americans has increased as a percentage of the population? Billionaires and Millionaires and the Lower Middle Class (not the Middle Class, it reduced in size big time).
