3. The "stop violence . . . against women" campaigns are pretty blatant

maybe not everyone sees the omission so pointing it out is worthwhile.

And while others may not agree with this (that stopping violence against men is also an acceptable goal) they should be willing to meet that disagreement with words rather than censorship.

Violence is just violence. But rebranding violence around a particular group makes it a product. An ideological product. It sells a lot of books.

a stop violence against men group would garner at best apathy, more likely outright hate.

Consider the massive marketing campaign that breast cancer research has become. What is the color for that? I'm guessing there are tribes that have never had contact with the outside world that are still aware "pink ribbon" = "breast cancer research".

How many know the color for prostate cancer awareness?

I've seen NBA players wearing pink ribbons. I've never seen WNBA players wearing light blue ones.

Men *are* seen as disposable. So violence/death that primarily affects men? Meh.


Which headline would catch more attention: 100 killed, including 96 men. Or: 100 killed including 4 women.

Selling any product depends on the emotional involvement of the members of the target market combined with popular perceptions. Violence is wrong. Violence against the defenseless is doubly wrong. Women are smaller and weaker than men. And bingo, you have a ready made market of people around whom you can personalize a general moral principal.


Just like with any B grade action movie plot, "This time it's personal."

After further investigation, both sides sound unhinged in their own way, but at least it's funny to watch.
