Judge extends Afiuni's imprisonment without a hearing

"We (defense attorneys) appeared today (Tuesday, December 13) to request our client's freedom for lapse of the bench warrant and sign the record on the adjournment of the hearing, and surprisingly learned that Paredes resolved to extend to two years the term against Afiuni," Fernández told El Universal in an interview.
She recalled that the hearing, convened last Friday, December 9, for public prosecutors to request the extension, was adjourned at the request of public prosecutor Emirse Ramos, "because judge Afiuni was absent."
