Ros-Lehtinen Adjusts Stance on Cuban Adjustment Act

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS MIAMI — Oct 31, 2015, 12:13 PM ET

The longest-serving Cuban-American in Congress may be easing her support for the Cuban Adjustment Act.

Miami Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has long defended the act, which generally shields Cubans from deportation if they reach U.S. shores and fast-tracks the process for permanent residency. But in a segment taped for "Facing South Florida with Jim DeFede" on Sunday, Ros-Lehtinen said a Sun Sentinel investigation alerted her to welfare abuses by recent Cuban migrants collecting U.S. assistance and returning to Cuba.

According to the newspaper (http://bit.ly/1SeAJvH), the congresswoman told DeFede that while she doesn't favor completely ending the act, she does think Cubans exploiting it "should not have the privilege."

She said she's leaving reforms to another Florida Republican, Carlos Curbelo, who is working on legislation to modify the act by sanctioning Cubans who return to Cuba before becoming U.S. citizens.

as it exposes them as the loud-mouthed liars they are when they have claimed they had to flee Cuba for their lives, etc.

Cubans have been coming from and going to Cuba for decades. Even Elian Gonzalez' drunken great-uncle Lazaro who kept the boy from his father in Miami, himself took a vacation at Mantanzas, where Elian's father let the old man use his own bedroom, and the father slept in the car, to make room for him. (In the meantime, Lazaro spent his days fishing, and the nights in the hotel bars, and gave them a goat as payment before he left. )

It drives the Republican "exiles" nuts that Cubans in Florida openly have been coming and going for ages, blowing all kinds of holes in their fantasy the wingers had to "escape" to save their lives. If they lose that illusion, they lose the humongous US taxpayers' financial foundation which has been keeping the Cubans in a style FAR more comfortable than ANY immigrants to this country have ever known, not to mention instant legal status, freedom from getting rounded up and deported, like Haitians, Mexicans, Central Americans, etc., the day they arrive here.
