Daughter of Venezuelan Interior and Justice Minister mugged

(DB)

Translation

"One of the Interior and Justice Minister's daughters was assaulted in the Maletero de la Victoria barrio, Aragua State, according to a source from the Justice System. For this reason, the Minister has had many officers of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN) of Aragua changed, who were responsible for being the custodians of Rodriguez's daughter. Apparently, the Minister's daughter had requested her escort officers to let her go alone to the Maletero barrio, where the gangs "El Gato" and "Los Quilombos" operate, as stated by the source.

When she arrived, she was robbed of her possessions by unknown assailants.

The chief f the SEBIN-Aragua and most of the servants were transferred to another location. Only four intelligence officers, 2 cooks, and 3 hand-workers were left.
"

Looks like there's no escaping from crime for anyone, even family members of high-ranking government officials. Imagine how most people, who can't afford police escorts at all, must feel on the streets. Yet another fine example of the socialist utopia that so many people here seem to blindly admire.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that some SEBIN officers might've just had a hand in all this. It seems weird that they would simply not even bother to keep an eye on the Minister's daughter even though she requested them not to come. I thought it was her father's orders that they followed, not hers. It also seems rather odd that she requested this in the first place. Maybe she was hoping that her escorts wouldn't know what she was up to in that barrio?

Which is what SEBIN would be equivalent to here.

This is a high profile family member.

This is a bit worse than the time that Secret Service detail (not primary, secondary I think, on their off time) got boozed up in Colombia.

There are two points to the story, I suppose, one the fact that a Boligarch princess could talk her escort into leaving her alone. This is highly unusual. The other of course is the reality that crime in Venezuela is terrible, as far as I know Caracas is the country capital with the highest murder rate in the world.

What's astonishing to me is how deluded the rich elite girl must've been to think she could go into Maletero unsupervised and expect to waltz right in there unharmed. It's insane how deluded the rich elite can be.

The poor do not live in the same circumstances. They do not give a fuck about the rich elite and their paternalistic attitude. If you look like you have money, it will be taken.

She is lucky far worse things didn't happen to her.

BTW, young people might request such things just so they can go see a bf or get drugs or even to show off to their friends. The reason behind it is mainly irrelevant, it's the astonishing lack of judgment that gets me here.

I used to visit Caracas to recruit university graduates and I also visited the barrios to help with social causes. One thing we like to do is make sure the money we donate gets used properly, so I had to visit the sites and check the money was being spent on the right items. I had to visit an orphanage in Petare a few times, and the safe way to do it was to dress down a lot, use a beat up four wheel drive and go with a driver and two tough looking guys. It's also important to have a back up vehicle, never disclose when and how you get there, and stay on the move. So indeed it's possible to go to high crime areas but it has to be done properly, otherwise the odds are very high one can't come out in one piece. The bodyguard procedures for the girl had very weak enforcement, one item which never does get broken is to never be more than 2 meters away from one bodyguard. She was plain stupid.
