Related: About this forumFeel the empty seats: Bernie Sanders sees “disappointing” turnout for Wisconsin rally
http://www.dailynewsbin.com/news/feel-the-empty-seats-bernie-sanders-holds-wisconsin-rally-in-75-empWhat a difference a camera angle makes. The photos being posted on social media of tonights Bernie Sanders rally in Madison, Wisconsin by his own supporters appear to show an entirely full Kohl Center arena, whose capacity is more than seventeen thousand. But the photo posted by a reporter for the local ABC News affiliate reveals that the vast majority of the venue was in fact empty. The local police have also confirmed the low turnout number.
WKOW Madison reporter Greg Neumann, who was reporting from the event, tweeted that many in attendance were saying theyre disappointed by the turnout for the event. He posted a photo revealing that while attendees had been stuffed into one specific segment of the arena, the majority of the building was vacant. The Madison Police Department subsequently tweeted that turnout for the event was just 4,400 people, meaning the building was 75% empty.
Its not clear why the turnout for the Sanders event ended up being so small. Madison has a population of nearly a quarter million people, and the campaign appeared to expect a much larger crowd when it spent the significant sum of money required to book the Kohl Center for the evening; otherwise it could have relied on a smaller and less expensive venue. But whatever the reason, it suggests that the people of Wisconsin may not be Feeling the Bern in the way that some west coast cities have. State polls show that Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are neck and neck in Wisconsin just two days before voting
Still Neck and Neck maybe it will turn for Hillary......

Sen. Sanders has taken the podium at the Kohl Center. Crowd count is 4,400.

(70,310 posts)on the Kohl Center--holds 17,000--but it is expensive to rent. It is right on the UW-Madison campus.

Crowd not overwhelming for Sanders rally at Kohl Center. Senator himself told me he expects 4,000 here tonight.

(27,839 posts)What is there to see at this point? He's beginning to exhaust the college circuit, apparently, and these rallies are more GOTV than anything. I got in a small spat with someone the other day who was complaining that the fourth rally in the Pacific Northwest in ten days wasn't treated as national news but how is it? Same old story, same old show.

(22,165 posts)turn out. Why? My theory is they were expecting an "event", like a jam packed rock concert, and they didn't get it.
Flame out.

(11,617 posts)The message is old. Really old, actually--he has been saying the same speech, save the inserted Hillary smears for decades. He even talked of needing a political revolution. The only difference between then and now is he has switched out the old reference to "millionaires" with "billionaires" because, you know, a million bucks ain't as much as it used to be.
He is boring and predictable, and desperate.

(11,617 posts)I wonder how he will cover that up. He does little, from what I have been able to tell, for others, too. No charitable foundation...nothing.

A rarity on the campaign trail. A Bernie Sanders event with empty seats. A town hall on racial issues in Milwaukee.

(32,623 posts)He really loved saying he was *edit to add: NOT* born like one of those candidates who was "destined" to be president. He said it a couple of times while relaying his humble beginnings.
Who does he imagine anyone believes was destined to be president?! Hillary?! Because oh I'm so sure that as soon as girl babies were born in the 50s that's what EVERYONE said: SHE looks like a president! Except the moms of course, many of whom were still under anesthesia.
Cha
(297,720 posts)I think mitt thought he was destined to be president too.. and that just didn't happen.. He has to know he's NOT going to be.. Is BS going to eat his words when he has to end his campaign?

(32,623 posts)He was NOT born destined (as though some other candidate believed they WERE destined to be...)

(297,720 posts)the ****** still had it wrong, didn't he.
How creepy.. freaking personalized shit. And they just eat it up.
I saw a Tweet recently from Michael Cohen that sums that up..
Michael Cohen ??@speechboy71
For Sanders to be attacking Clinton personally when he has almost no chance of winning will be a sad bookmark to his campaign

(32,623 posts)BS was probably trying to establish some sort of common ground with his audience at this meeting re:race. But look what he did- he assumed the most common ground he could express was being poor. Doesn't that assume an attribute for his audience that is a little insulting? Black does not equal poor! He's done that before.
This time it reminded me of that old Steve Martin line, "I was born a poor black child"

(11,617 posts)I guess everyone figured out that there isn't anything more to Bernie than the single issue he has lectured about for decades, and that one works better in smaller, mostly white states. Back to Vermont you go Bernie.
Without cheating--he is toast.
