Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumWho did you side with in the 2008 primaries?
Me, I was for John Edwards in the pre-primary phase, but by the time of New Hampshire I was in the Obama camp.
I was impressed by how aggressively Hillary campaigned for the Obama/Biden ticket in 2008, and I promised that were she to ever run again, I'd be in her camp.

(1,512 posts)I liked both Obama and Hillary and would have been happy with either, but was leaning Hillary as I recall. I was very proud the day we swore in our first African American president, and will be very proud again in January when we swear in our first woman president.

(32,342 posts)I was impressed with his 2004 DNC keynote and he seemed very Presidential even then.
I have lots of friends who were Clinton primary supporters though, and my best friend is one who early on predicted Clinton for SOS.

(2,074 posts)Initially I so hoped that Gore would run again. I wanted a historical miscarriage of justice set aright. But it quickly became clear he would not. I then looked at the field, and chose Obama, and became a passionate Obama supporter. DH preferred Biden, so I guess between the two of us we know how to pick a winning ticket! This time we're both for Hillary, although most of our friends are Bernie supporters.
Regarding 2008, I never trusted Edwards, and sadly I was proven right about him. I also quite disliked Hillary - I now know it was the heat of the campaign that made me interpret everything she did negatively (much like the Bernie supporters now, but not nearly with as much intensity), plus I really did hold the War vote against her. I still do not like that vote, but I've come to be more forgiving in the years since, and I've developed a grudging respect for her that has evolved into liking. I support her candidacy wholeheartedly this time around, although I did start by being somewhat neutral, since I do like a lot of what Bernie has to say. I find his campaign ugly, though (datagate was the final straw for me), and I like the fact that Hillary is detailed in her plans. Her gender is a nice bonus.

(24,396 posts)In 2004, I was Kerry all the way.
When I think about it, I have picked the eventual D nominee early on in the primaries in the last 6 elections. Which is why I am very confident that Hillary will be the nominee this year.

Now is Hillary's time.

(4,640 posts)both as well. I supported Hillary in the primaries, and when Obama won, supported HIM for the rest of it. Also voted for him in both 2008 and 2012.

(2,679 posts)Then Obama entered the race. At that point I was elated yet conflicted. Who to pick: first female or first African American? Figured it was a win win no matter what. I made donation to Hillary. But Obama was starting to win me over. Voted Hillary in the primary (I am in FL), but by that time it was pretty clear Obama would be the nominee. Didn't ditch Hillary as I remember a conversation with my daughter at the time. I said Hillary will get another shot in 8 years.

(213 posts)Although I was on the fence, mainly because I was afraid of what the Republicans would do to Hillary. When I said as much to a friend of mine, an AA minister from Cleveland, he said: " Oh my, you have no idea what they are going to do to Barack Obama." And I, a white woman learned he was right. But look! What a wonderful president he is! Now I am all the way for Hillary, especially if she will continue the progress Obama has made.

(1,353 posts)Then easy to support Obama and have been very happy with his efforts and results...love him.
This is SO time for Hillary and despite all the vitriol from the Bernie supports, I will agree with some pundits who have suggested that his fight has made her a better candidate...she is becoming laser focused and she will make a wonderful president...have no doubt!

(6,537 posts)As I would be happy to vote for Bernie, should he become the nominee. In spite of many of his supporters.

(4,507 posts)even organized a group of 9 of us to travel to PA for the primary and paid for everyone's transportation and lodging. We got trounced.
Was an Obama fellow, working for the campaign the whole summer of '08.
I appreciated Hillary's eventual strong support of the campaign, and in the same way she won me over as my Senator despite my initial skepticism, she did the same as a post-election ally and then as a super-competent Secretary of State.

(11,243 posts)Very early, too, because I remember doing turnout calls for the local election and talking about it with the ACORN organizer and he liked Clinton. So much for stereotypes....
But I always liked Clinton, and would have supported her happily too (except that part at the very end).

(581 posts)But I would have supported Hillary in the general election (obviously).
I supported Hillary in her two Senate campaigns.

(68,867 posts)However, I will say I was impressed with Hillary's tenacity throughout the Primaries....
Showed me what she was made of, in terms of working for what she wants.
Once she suspended her campaign, she further impressed me starting at the Convention,
and then her 2008 campaigning for Obama; both her and Bill.
Also Bill (I know he isn't Hillary) campaigned his heart out for Obama in 2012.
In other words, I always knew that those terrible things said about her were made up....
Since she came close in the primaries of 2008,
I know she can get this one done, and then on to the general election!

(6,496 posts)I liked Obama too, so I was fine with him winning the nomination. I did really like Edwards. It is too bad he screwed his political career up with the affairs. He had the right charisma to eventually be great politics, but he royally screwed it up.

(2,004 posts)Her environmental positions have always been stronger than President Obama. President Obama's education policies have been a true horror show and really no different than the GOP. Other than those two areas President Obama has been great.

(67,782 posts)....and by early Spring changed my allegiance. It had nothing to do with either group of supporters or policy differences, it was more due to his charisma and I felt he had a better chance of defeating the republican.
To me, both were impressive and would have (one did!) been an excellent president.

(10,828 posts)I was a Hillary supporter in 2008 and I'm a Hillary supporter now. I've always thought she was a phenomenal candidate for POTUS. The fact that she's a woman is icing on the cake.

(50,557 posts)I thought Obama was too nice a guy to be president. If pushed hard enough and the situation calls for it, Hillary will be able to bring down the Iron Hand of Doom on the Republicans at a moment's notice.
Obama has shown a remarkable ability to work around the GOP, but the Iron Hand thing would have come in handy on a LOT of occasions.
They're gonna blow Bernie off to an even greater extent than they did Obama.
