Conversation with a Trump voter re: Hillary (Hillary Clinton Group)

I went to a local bar yesterday and had this exchange with a complete stranger.

ME: So, how about this election...

WOMAN: Oh please don't get me started, Hillary's a crook, blah blah blah, I'll be so happy when Trump takes over.

ME: Oh. Okay. What do you think would be better with Trump as President?

WOMAN: Anything's better than Hillary.

ME: Ok. Why?

WOMAN Oh God all she does is flip-flop.

ME: Um, okay... you do realize, of course, that most politicians change their positions on some things as time passes, right? Society evolves and so do the positions of those running the country, which is how it should be. But Donald Trump changes positions within two hours of blurting anything out, like punishing a woman for an abortion and forcing the military to break our own laws, just off the top of my head?

WOMAN: But that's just it, he's not a politican.

ME: So because Trump's "not a politician", it's ok for him to behave like the worst of the worst politicians?

WOMAN: Well that's just politics.

ME: Oh. Okay.

WOMAN: And Hillary has nothing going for her except that she's a woman.

BARTENDER CHIMES IN: Yeah, ain't that the truth.

ME: Well, she was the first lady for 8 years, a senator, a first lady of Arkansas, secretary of state of the United States, got 9/11 workers health care, negotiated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and about sixty other things, while Donald Trump was prank calling television stations as "John Miller" to say women wanted to bang him.

WOMAN: [orders fourth drink] So you tell me this, where are her emails?

ME: Right online. I read most of them. They were scandalous, too - discussions about her grandchild's birthday party. Were you as concerned about the Bush administration's 5 million missing emails about a war that killed masses as you are about Hillary's 30 thousand freely-available emails? Or no?

WOMAN: Turns her back to me. Reads National Enquirer.

For fuck's sake. Did I tell you I'm moving away? This is a dive bar in a dumpy town. This is a woman who would rather stay willfully ignorant and vote for a millionaire tv show host who glorifies ignorance and anger and who has made his millions off of people like her by dumping his tax responsibilities on the rest of us and lots of other douchebaggery. Hillary has fought for people like her and her family to have health care and women's rights, but this woman has no interest in absorbing that information and will continue to vote against her own best interests (and mine). I try not to hate people like her, and to just feel sorry for her. But I truly hate Donald Trump with the heat of a thousand suns.

It is absolutely true, and the kind of thing liberals would be talking about if liberals were talking.

But we should not have to change the minds of those who allege they are liberals.

... we could inflict Trump on the people who truly deserve it (such as the woman in question), while at the same time keep Hillary (and sanity) to ourselves.
