Hillary Clinton

I came to DU a month ago, wanting to connect with other Bernie supporters. Instead, I found a group of insecure, mean, close-minded people who don't realize the value of civil discourse and courteous discussion of the issues that we are all concerned with as Democrats. I hate to say it, but I believe that the BS wing of the party really seems like a cult. I just can't blindly follow their circular logic anymore. I even got banned from their group for suggesting that the attacks on fellow Dems be toned down.
When it comes time to vote in the California primary, my vote will go to Hillary...and I will do my best to convince other's to support her as well.

(38,437 posts)... please don't make your selection of candidate based on the DU Sanders crowd. They don't represent the mainstream Berners and they certainly don't represent Sanders.
Nevertheless, you are most welcome here!
I even had (they've switched) a couple of Sanders supporters in my own family, and they weren't angry and vile like some of the online supporters.

(1,220 posts)in the Bernie supporters locally. I was at a farmer's market yesterday, and overheard the people at the Sanders booth spreading lies to everyone who walked by (that Hillary was going to be indicted and have to drop out of the race right after the CA primary...they said that they knew this for a fact). I know they are desperate, but it really rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe I'm old fashion, but I like candidates who lay out their ideas and plans, and then the people vote based on how their own values best align with the various candidate's. Negative campaigning has never worked on me.

(11,746 posts)I am at a loss. No matter what I say to them I get attacked. They swarm and stack juries.
I'm sure they chase away decent Sanders supporters.
When we encounter normal human beings who support Sanders we are impressed. Well, at least I am.
It isn't difficult to be decent but apparently some people can't manage. I welcome you here.

(53,866 posts)if you dont think so, vote for him in the primary and for her in the GE.
don't let the crazies here influence your vote. they are echo chamber of people who only read bloggers that confirm their existing beliefs and mistake said bloggers for real journalists/statisticians etc.
I say this as a strong HRC supporter that you should vote with your mind and heart, and try to disregard the insanity on DU.

(1,220 posts)I don't know what you all think of the Sanders New York Daily News interview, but for me it was a game changer. While I am all for liberal plans that can help equalize our society, it makes no sense to spout big ideas without any prudent method for implementation.
Along these same lines, it seems much more practical to approach change in our current system in a much more incremental way. I really was taken in by Sanders' promises, but then I took a deep breath (spurred on by my dislike for so many of the Bernie people on DU) and realized that his ideas are best held up as an objective to strive for over the course of many (hopefully) Democratic administrations.
Lastly, I have been disappointed with Sanders and his wife for continuously going after Hillary in personal ways after it has become obvious that he cannot win the nomination. If he is truly working for the good of the country, and for the values he supposedly holds dear, he would know that both of those goals depend on Hillary winning in November.

(13,783 posts)... for a Sanders supporter. I'm glad to hear from other Clinton folks that DU doesn't represent all Sanders supporters. My son supports Sanders and swears that the folks he met at rallies aren't anti-Hillary and will vote Democratic in November. Glad his view is supported.

(3,284 posts)I went through a similar process to what you describe. I initially started out thinking my views aligned more with Bernie Sanders, but several of the things you mentioned had me changing my vote to HRC. The NY Daily News interview definitely knocked Bernie down several notches...more recently, there have been an increasing number of things that turn me off about his campaign (a big one being the way he trashes HRC). The way his supporters and surrogates have acted is just icing on the cake.
This group has been invaluable to me as a refuge from a wider internet hostile to HRC and her supporters.

(740 posts)...people don't see something obvious to others until an event opens their eyes just enough for them to want to question something they believe as truth.
People do get upset when supporters affect someones view of a candidate but it really is mammal nature for the mind to associate things like fire/hot, bell-ringing/food; some of his supporters have conditioned my mind to associate Bernie with hatefulness, dishonesty and 'sliminess'. I literally have to remind myself he is not them when I see a picture of him and, as my friends say, I look like I just bit into something rotten.

(1,353 posts)I do feel reasonable people will eventually come over and vote HRC...and understand they need to come to grips with Bernie's loss. He's not helping by stringing them along with false hope but he certainly has the right to have voters cast their vote for him through the end. He really needs to stop trying to win over delegates: he should be shifting to unifying...instead his cult group here are becoming more vile as they become desperate...
Better to just stay here until it blows over...

Unfortunately the sandbaggers are in full effect in DU's GDP but they will fade along with bernie's campaign.
Again, welcome! Join in on the fun.

I'm fairly new myself. I always preferred Clinton but can identify with what you said based on what I've seen. I actually only wound up coming online here because I was so bothered by the toxicity toward Clinton supporters, and the way many Sanders' supporters were systematically silencing other voices through abuse and through censorship strategies. It actually left me feeling obligated to put my voice out. I recommend checking out the AA group, I lurk over there, and they usually have some pretty interesting discussions going on.

(121 posts)I posted something very similar a few weeks ago and was immediately set upon by the Bernie folks, telling me to basically "butt out".... The only point I tried to make was that we should tone down the vitriolic rhetoric toward fellow Democrats (and their preferred candidate), that the point is to keep the WH out of republican hands.

(9,494 posts)he really gave his obnoxious Followers the green light to double down on their lies and personal attacks. He and his supporters seem to have no other goal but tearing the Democratic party apart. This kind of behavior will attract plenty of hate filled malcontents but, normal Liberals and life long Democrats will start to peel away.

(12,448 posts)I think a lot of intelligent, thoughtful people who initially supported Sanders are being turned off by his extremist supporters and the dishonesty of his campaign. The latest was his press conference today, in which he begged superdelegates to switch to him, and then had the nerve to talk about what's "best for the Democratic party!"

The primary season has been hard on everyone, but this too shall pass, and we will see Madame President declared the winner this November. Lotta work to do between here and there but we will do it!

(3,825 posts)Civil discourse has been in short supply as of late on our DU. Long time member here and I want to welcome you into the fold. We may have differences of opinion, but our goal, and only goal, should be to help eliminate the sick and insane gop party from our body politic. We have a job ahead of us and it's far past time to start concentrating on that. Take back the Senate, take back the House and President Clinton will have a lot of work to do to put this country back on the right track. Together, we will do this.

(13,218 posts)I did lean toward Hillary because I didn't know a thing about Bernie. So I decided to give both the benefit of the doubt with emphasis on learning about Bernie. It didn't take long to discover how acrid and thin-skinned the BSers were (those that posted a lot, screamed , and behaved as children - not all BSers by a long shot). Also I discovered Bernie was NOT a realist and had a bunch of half-baked ideas. In fact, I was sharply taken aback that so many supporters were buying what he was selling! Is it any wonder I quickly decided Hillary was everything in a candidate I loved. In any case, welcome to DU. Please stay a while and vote, vote the candidate of your choice.
