I am so very proud of you all.

You have been picking your battles wisely. You have not allowed yourselves to be manipulated by people who simply like to stir up trouble. This will be extremely important as we move forward into election season.

I feel that we have made significant progress in relations with other groups on DU since the 2008 election. We have a diverse group of hosts here in the Obama Group and there's a reason for that - we're Democrats. As such, we have men, women, African Americans, caucasians, and LGBT hosts (just what I know off the top of my head).

I point this out because lord only knows what the next controversy will be that someone will attempt to create on DU. By the way, will the hosts chime in if they represent any other race/ethnicity/religion/non-religion/etc.? I think everyone should and would like to know just how diverse a place this is.

I'm old, white, southern, female. Does that help with diversity in the forum as a whole? I, too, think everyone here has been doing a terrific job.

I'm white. Raised fundy. Now I'm not sure what I am. I'd be pagan except I love Christmas too much to give up Christmas carols. Mostly I love finding the similarities in all faiths, the universal truths, the odd coincidences.

I think that's one of our strengths, too. Says alot about this group and the president's supporters as a whole.

Well, I am 1/4 Spanish and a Pagan/Buddhist/Optimistic Agnostic. I'm not sure that qualifies me as diverse or confused.

Thank you, hosts and all, for keeping this place calm. It's been a rough week. This place is like my tea house.

I am a lifelong Democrat. I am a single mom of two, a nurse, who lives in Ohio. I have been coming to this site for several years, posted a couple of times, but never got actively involved. I am looking forward to working for President Obama's re-election in November and I am glad to meet everyone!

It is nice to meet you, also!! Yes, my state is a very important state, but I truly believe that we will bring it home for our President! It has changed so much since the election of Ka-sick, and his failed attempt to remove our union rights. Most sane people here hate him and will be out in full force, in November, voting against anything that looks, smells and sounds like a Republican. It is always nice to be around good folks! Thanks for welcoming me here everyone!

Sorry it took so long for me to reply back, but I work some very crazy schedules! It is nice to be on board. I have been coming here for a long time, just browsing and reading all the great post. I can't wait for the election so that we can shut the righties mouthes up. I am sick of all their whining.

We're so glad to meet you. Life's tough on single parents out there, especially in the medical field. It's just amazing that people whose time is so limited are still able to squeeze in some moments to volunteer for Obama. Thank you SO much for your efforts. We look forward to seeing you here, too.

Sometimes this group is quiet and sometimes it's busy. Keep us informed about what's going on in your local campaigns, both state and federal. We love to hear stories from our members.

I know and understand that when I volunteer it is not just for me and my family, it is for all of our children, and children's children. This Nation is in a very dangerous place in time. We must not give in or give up any ground to the Nation destroyers. I have been fired up and ready to go for months! It is always nice to meet folks that are on our side!!! Be blessed!

I just figured that with election season cranking up that it would be a good time to remind everyone here that we are the face of the Democratic Party. So anytime someone tries to drag us into arguments or tries to divide us, it would be dividing us against ourselves within this very group.

Now I'm wondering how many Latinos and Hispanics we have here, too. And Native Americans and/or First Nations people. And Asians. Hmm. Maybe someone should do a poll. It won't be me, since I just learned how to post a YT vid (she says proudly and sheepishly at the same time).

i agree, it would be great to know what a spectrum of people and Peoples we have here!
maybe a thread asking, instead of a poll?

thank you, again, Devon! for this thread, and for all you do for us!! YOUR tone sets a wonderful example, helping us all to see the effectiveness of a peaceful, confident tone. i know it helps me, a lot.

Just a reminder that cool heads prevail. We've had some obvious trolls PPRed today for trying to forward the meme that African Americans are against gay marriage. There are others who have been less obvious but are still out there. So take care since emotions will be running high with tonight's very disappointing vote in North Carolina.

We all support gay marriage, so don't let those trolls goad you. Rather, let them expose their own prejudices for what they are. They seem to get really annoyed when we respond to them with reason. And OMG, they have a hissy fit if you're really, really nice.
