Ubuntu MATE 14.10 is here

And I'm here to tell you that this is where Ubuntu should have been from 11.04 on. F* Unity and all its glory.
This is Gnome2 at its finest and it's an official release from the Ubuntu team.
I simply love it. Makes complaying fun again as I can customize as I want and do it without having to learn any computer talk, ie programing language.

ETA: here is the link for downloading 14.10 with mate already the gui. No Unity to be found on this version and its coming from the official Ubuntu folks, not an add on

I'm checking out Kubuntu in Virtualbox right now. Been a lot of years since I saw a KDE desktop.

3. I'm really happy with this

when I first started with Linux it was with gnome2 and I guess I'm getting too old to learn new tricks. I tried KDE a couple times but just didn't warm up to it.
I really like the customization I get with gnome2 and have been in a state of limbo since they dropped it completely in 12.04
Mate as an add on never did work right on my old computer either but this seems to be pretty well integrated with 14.10
the funny thing is I had just found flashback-sessions which was a lot like gnome2 and was liking using it in 14.04 when I found this. No way will I go back to it now.

4. I'm running Ubuntu 14 AMD 64bit on my best box. No problems, everything I need, easy to get around.

I love Virtualbox and trying out distros. Been revisiting what I have run in the past. After Kubuntu I'm going to run FreeBSD. I'm tempted to go back to that for security reasons. Debian is another one ...lots of software and I have never tried it. My new box is using a A10-7850K APU on a Gigabyte FM2+ GA-F2A88X-UP4 with a WD Black sata6 and 16gb of 2133 DDR3 ram. Looking at a Asus 27" VS278Q-P monitor upgrade too.

5. I haven't had any luck with virtual box yet

mind you it was back in the 10.04 days when I tried it. I don't know what I did wrong but I never could get it to work for me.
One of these rainy days I'll have to give it a try again. I like trying new OS and it would be perfect for that.
But, theres that but again, now that I have a good functioning new version of Ubuntu with what for all intents and purposed that uses gnome2 I'm pretty happy with what I have so I probably won't be trying different OS quiet so often now.
I'm been pretty lucky putting whatever OS I want to try on a thumb drive and running it from there. Last black friday I purchased a sandisk 32 gig for 7 bucks at radio shack and so far I've installed at least a dozen different versions on it and it just keeps on coming back for more, so far that is.
