Messages app won't speak to my husband suddenly

I have Apple, he has Android. We text all the time. Once in a while it won't send something, but this morning it won't let us communicate in either direction. I have sms turned on if i-messages isn't available.

We've turned the phones off and on, tried using non-wifi.

Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance.

Don't worry, it happens to all couples.

Try turning the phone off for a day and actually talking to each other. It might help.

Believe me, we talk A LOT! But if he's downstairs and I'm upstairs and the cat does something funny? It's a texting emergency! (We don't get out much.)

(Oh and p.s. suddenly it's fine. Though we do now both have What's App.)

And it's end-to-end encrypted, so Google (on the other end) won't be filing a report of your conversations.

Does it bother anyone else that Apple shows messages to Android users in the least-readable white on green bubble? PUNISHING APPLE USERS?
