What to do with a bunch of computer cases?
Do cases change much so that older cases become obsolete or can newer systems always be built in the older cases? I have a bunch of various sizes, ranging from big server sizes down to mini and micro sizes.
Is it time to just donate them somewhere, and can anybody even use them anymore?

(217 posts)Donation is a great idea! Otherwise you could always just scrap the metal.
Even if its an older BTX chassis you could always use the case for something else.

(41,694 posts)Dell uses proprietary front panel connectors. And they're a PITA to modify.

(1,005 posts)What he did, was fill them all with concrete, put them in his front yard and laughed at the video of people trying to steal them. It was even more fun when he put a couple of cases around a post in his walkway and filled them with concrete, essentially making them immovable lawn sculptures.

(17,742 posts)It's bad enough when it's just the case. Now imagine doing that on one filled with concrete! ouch

(1,005 posts)Was watching a bunch of teenagers trying to carry off more than one at a time. We actually weighed one of the smaller cases, and it tipped the scales at about 200 lbs. I didn't want to think of what some of the bigger ones weighed.

(1,005 posts)But anyone who attempts to rip off the 'computers" in his front yard, get what they deserve, namely, muscle strains, hernias, chagrin at stealing concrete, and a visit from the local cops!

(11,155 posts)put them out for the scrappers. Might as well help someone make a little money.
