Our Comcast internet service just doubled in price

We switched from Verizon to Comcrap in Nov. 2012 because the Verizon internet service was ridiculously slow.
Our previous Comcrap bill was $44.37, but today's bill is for $85.43.
When we switched internet providers in 2012, there were almost no other IP companies in our area, which is just northwest of Washington DC.
Looking around online, I now see dozens of ISPs.
Does anyone have any suggestions about finding good, affordable internet service?
Is this sudden increase in providers due to the Net Neutrality court ruling?

(102,358 posts)I didn't want anything but DSL, but the way they rig the system, I was going to be paying for it regardless... So I have a ridiculous tv package (basically network and TVLand) just so I wouldn't be paying for nothing. Comcast makes money off of tv, telephone, and security system add-ons. And, they give you a time-limited "package" price, which immediately jumps up in price when the period ends--even if you don't change anything.
Internet providers and cable in this country truly sucks.

(60,344 posts)You said you switched 2 years ago. I wonder if that was not the deal.
Just a thought!

(22,845 posts)Originally the charge for "Blast" internet was $39.99 a month plus $7 for the wireless router/modem plus taxes etc.
That was in November 2012. Maybe that was an introductory price.
This past December the price increased to $61.95 internet service, plus $7 for the router
and a new item was added to the bill, a charge of $25 for Xfinity bundled services, 5 at $5 each, with a $25 credit for Valued Customer. I have no idea what this bundled services item is. All we ever requested was plain internet service, nothing else.
In January the bill was the same, 61.95, with a $25 charge for bundled services (which we never requested or agreed to) and a $25 credit for the bundled services.
The February bill charges $76.95 for Blast internet and $8 for the router, but there is no $25 charge or credit for the mysterious bundled services on this bill.

(7,475 posts)All our Comcast rates will probably go up too. I bet Comcast drops even more stations. For those of us with current(awful) Comcast service, this certainly is not good news.

(22,845 posts)We have DirecTV. All these companies are way too unregulated and greedy.
