GAB staff recommends 4 Senate recall elections move forward

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/gab-chief-seeks-recall-votes-on-may-15-june-12-b54gkqe-142086263.html

Madison - Recall elections should move forward for four GOP senators and any recall elections should be held on May 15 and June 12, according to recommendations by state elections staff.

The proposed elections and dates will have to be affirmed by the state Government Accountability Board and the dates will have to be affirmed by a Dane County judge. The dates drew immediate criticism from Democrats who said it would hold up the election.

The accountability board is under court order to decide by March 19 whether recall elections are required for Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) and three other senators.

But a memo Friday from the board's director, Kevin Kennedy, advised the board that it should file a motion with the court asking to have until April 6 to go through all the petitions and decide on holding elections.

That would mean ordering any recall elections for May 15. If there were primaries in any of those contests, the May 15 elections would become primaries in those races, with the general recall elections on June 12.
