A liberal advocacy group is leveling heavy criticism at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, claiming the quasi-private agency championed by Gov. Scott Walker is rife with corruption and mismanagement. (DUH!)
The report from One Wisconsin Now maintains that nearly 60 percent of some $975 million in assistance distributed by WEDC went to firms that had contributed to Walker or the Republican Governors Association.
Among those mentioned in the report are developers of Madisons new Edgewater Hotel, which benefited from nearly $56 million in low-interest federal loans administered by WEDC.
Cronyism, corruption and incompetence have been the hallmarks of Gov. Walkers administration and nowhere is that more evident than with his signature economic development initiative, said One Wisconsin Now executive director Scot Ross in a statement released Thursday with the report.

In at least two cases, WEDC recipients had troubling legal proceedings prior to being
awarded state funds for their companies. Gamber-Johnson, which received two
$10,000 grants, was found to have conducted false advertising in Washington State.
The case included jury findings of falsity and deliberateness.
Rockline Industries, which received $500,000 in tax credits and a $200,000
workforce training grant, was sued in Arkansas for age discrimination and wrongful
termination. The company settled the lawsuit.
