EVERETT The wait is over for Snohomish County voters.
Ballots for the Nov. 6 election will be mailed Thursday to 459,700 registered voters.
There are big questions to tackle ranging from carbon taxes and gun control, to the makeup of the Legislature and the method of deciding how Everett City Council members are elected.
The high stakes are fueling a surge of interest in this falls political classic.
Since the August primary, 5,500 new voters have registered in Snohomish County. That is a larger increase than was recorded between the primary and general elections in 2014 and 2010 midterms.

(6,831 posts)I am especially encouraged about I-1639.
"This measure would require increased background checks, training, age limitations, and waiting periods for sales or delivery of semiautomatic assault rifles; criminalize noncompliant storage upon unauthorized use; allow fees; and enact other provisions."
Despite the mis-characterization of the initiative by the republicans, this bill has the NRA up in arms (pun unintended, but hey, it works). All it does is require the same protocols that already exist for handguns be applied to semi-automatic assault rifles. But I see signs all over Bellingham that this will repeal the Second Amendment. BS. No it won't. But you know the NRA. ANY control of guns is a slippery slope toward abortion, I mean, repeal.
Sane gun control. Who thought that would appeal to anyone ?

(2,670 posts)that opposes open carry here, specifically in Bellingham. WA state law prohibits groups from carrying openly in parades, marches, rallies, etc. and so far BPD has refused to enforce the law. Open Carry Hammers is the group name for anyone interested.
I'm all in on I-639.

(6,831 posts)To walk around with a gun on their hip (or where ever) is over-compensating and in need of serious therapy.
If I were in a restaurant or any public accommodation and saw someone enter with a gun visible, I would BOLT for the door. This is a pathology I don't want anywhere near me.
Thanks for the information about Open Carry Hammers.
