Some truths about Cathy McMorris Rodgers
http://m.dailykos.com/story/2014/01/28/1273163/-Some-truths-about-Cathy-McMorris-Rodgers
Cathy McMorris Rodgers has run her campaigns on her background as an all-American girl, growing up on an eastern Washington orchard and making her way through college on the proceeds of her 4H projects. She states this every campaign cycle in the Washington State voters pamphlet, which is a candidates job application to the voters of Washington State. The facts are she did not grow up on an orchard in Washington State. In fact, she really did not grow up in America at all.
When Cathy was a toddler, her parents left Oregon with Cathy and her brother and settled in Hazelton in Northern British Columbia, Canada. There they lived in a cabin without indoor plumbing or electricity. After a while, the family drifted around Northern BC, home schooling Cathy and her brother, until Cathy was the age of a junior in high School student and it was then her family finally returned to the United States. Her father found a small orchard to rent in Kettle Falls and Cathy stayed for a year and then chose to attend the fundamentalist Pensacola Christian College, in Florida. While Cathy attended, it was unaccredited and only became accredited in 2013. The student handbook reads like something you would almost expect from the Taliban.

During the fundamentalist education and grooming of Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the Republicans never noticed or did not care that Cathy was dumb as a bag of rocks, because their ideal woman is obedient and cannot think for herself.
The McMorris family was forced into admitting their flight into Canada and staying until Cathy was a junior in high school, in the October 17th 2004 edition of the Spokesman Review. However, Cathy preferred the fiction of growing up on an America orchard and decided to stick with it. During her congressional campaign, her brother and she decided to add something else to the family history and decided they were descended from Oregon Trail pioneers.
Meet Cathy McMorris, a Right Wing Extremist In Washington, Expert In Covering Up For Republican Sexual Predators

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris, who represents Washington's 5th District, is an old hand at the pedophile protection racket, having worked closely with Jim West for 20 years in the Legislature. Cathy also has one of the most disgusting voting records in Congress. She has spent her entire life in the pocket of her father and his corrupt political cronies, and they have led her down a sorry path.
That seems to be the case more often than not when Republicans indulge in what they like to think of as mentoring, counseling, helping, guiding, advising. And who is more deserving of this kind of special attention than young people? Just last week it came out that Sheriff Hairspray, aka "Congressman Frank Drebin" of the 8th District, had taken time off from his relentless pursuit of the Green River killer to bring a teenage prostitute into his home so that he might "have a positive effect" on her.

(51,907 posts)I am just going to out and out say it. Cathy McMorris Rodgers was TERRIBLE. It was just about impossible to take her seriously during the entire address. It was almost entirely due to her delivery. We all knew what she would be discussing. It was going to be a by-the-numbers Republican refutation of everything that the President stands for, and that is exactly what we got. Basically, it was a discussion of free market solutions, compassionate conservatism, more lies about the ACA, lower taxes, less regulations and smaller government.
It wasnt the anecdotes about Obamacare cancellation notices or the insertion of religion towards the end of her address that made it bad, because those things were pretty much expected from a Republican response to the SOTU. No, it was her delivery. It came across as a mix of a kindergarten teacher doing story time with her kids and a tour guide who feels she needs to speak slowly and loudly for the foreign tourists. It was jarring and made one wonder what the GOP was thinking when they decided on her to offer their rebuttal.
This will mark the second year in a row where the official GOP response to the Presidents State of the Union will be slammed by media critics and pundits. It will be tough to decide which one was worse. Do you go with Rubios dying thirst and continuous drinking of water during his speech? Or McMorris Rodgers speaking to America like were all a bunch of six-year olds?

(51,907 posts)An independent congressional ethics board found substantial reason to believe Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.), the fourth-ranking House Republican, improperly used official funds for campaign activities.
The full findings of the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) were made public for the first time on Monday by the House Ethics Committee, which is extending its review of the allegations against her. The OCE also found McMorris Rodgers improperly combined taxpayer and campaign resources during her winning campaign to become chairwoman of the House Republican Conference in 2012.
But Ethics Committee Chairman Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Rep. Linda Sanchez (Calif.), the top Democrat, declined to impanel an investigative subcommittee on the matter, which emerged out of a complaint to the OCE.
Elliot Berke, an attorney for the congresswoman, denied the claims made by her former spokesman, Todd Winer, as well as the OCEs findings, in a 21-page letter to the leaders of the Ethics Committee that also was released on Monday. Berke characterized Winer as a disgruntled former employee and referred to statements by his colleagues that Winer had become dark and twisted, and acted in a manner that left them concerned for their safety.
We recognize the institutional constraints the Ethics Committee is under and understand it was unable to conduct a full review during this 90 day period, Berke said in a statement. We remain confident that, in time, the committee will dismiss the complaint which was based on frivolous allegations from a single source a former employee who then discredited himself by admitting to his own improper conduct.

The subject of this quote, whose real name is Dave ("Third" Reichert, is, sadly, the Congresscritter from my district, and I've never seen or heard any such story, nor am I having any luck with a cursory Google search.
