Freezing rain expected to create dangerous road conditions

Road crews are working to stay ahead of potentially dangerous weather conditions that are expected in western Washington over the next few days.

Freezing rain is a possibility from Thursday night to Friday morning and bitter-cold temperatures are already setting in across many areas, according to the National Weather Service.

“This is a serious snow and ice event and with these temperatures. The roads will become instantly slick even in spots we have treated multiple times," said James Poling with the Washington Department of Transportation.

KOMO News Meteorologist Kristin Clark predicted Thursday will be the peak of the cold snap with areas around Puget Sound seeing highs in the mid 20s and parts of central and eastern Washington plunging below zero.

I couldn't see. That surprised me. I always thought the only issue would be turning the road icy. Be ready for that.
