King County gyms, taverns could reopen if state OKs Phase 2 application
King County on Monday applied to the state Department of Health for permission to move to Phase 2 of the Safe Start recovery plan.
The state is expected to process the application, and King County could move to Phase 2 as soon as Friday, the county said.
Gyms and taverns could reopen with limited operations, and restaurants and offices could expand beyond their current allowed activity. Libraries and colleges would be allowed to partially reopen as well.
The application comes even as the county is not meeting public health metrics. For instance, the Covid-19 outbreak is growing again slightly, and the level and pace of testing has not yet met previously set targets, as shown on the county's dashboard.
