With lacking testing data, Kitsap health officials look at new ways to track coronavirus' spread
With the number of new COVID-19 cases dropping in recent weeks, Kitsap public health officials are working to find new ways to track the virus spread as wide-spread testing for the virus remains limited nationwide.
There have been only six new confirmed cases in the last seven days, bringing Kitsap Countys total up to 146 known COVID-19 cases, including two deaths, as of Saturday afternoon. In the first week of April, by comparison, Kitsap saw more than 50 new COVID-19 cases which marked the most of any seven-day period to this point, according to the Kitsap Public Health District.
Kitsap Health Officer Susan Turner says the data shows a decline in new cases which could indicate public health measures are helping to slow down the virus spread and fewer people are getting sick but cautioned against drawing broad, definite conclusions about the coronavirus trajectory.
