I was thrilled we finally got some HEB stores here in North Texas and last time we drove past the one closest to us, the parking lot was packed.

The first grocery shop was at a supermarket right by my new apartment and I wasn't terribly impressed. I started doing some research for the next grocery shop and was like, "What do you mean there aren't any HEBs in Denton, Denton County or even Dallas County? WHY did we move here????"

It's been a long haul.

They do a pretty good job and they’ve got a lot of stores spread across Texas.

It is named after Howard E. Butt.

They give back to their communities. They showed up in our town to provide essential supplies before they even had a store here, just the land for one, when we had a devastating flood that damaged or destroyed 400 homes and killed eight people. They set up a canopy and portable tables in the high school parking lot and trucked in supplies. No price gouging either.

It's a shame Mr. Butt's freedom to support what he values is being targeted. Yet another example of how the Republicans in Texas are oppressive extremists.
